Live production control at a Hay Festival Segovia session, with the audience and the stage behind

The Hay Festival brings writers, thinkers and audiences together in Segovia for talks and conversations. We have directed its sessions live since 2016, and the festival has come back to us for every edition.

What it looks like from the control room

The multiview in the control room during a Hay Festival Segovia talk: every camera, including the robotic PTZ cameras, and the feed going out to the room, on a single screen.

The challenge

Sessions follow one another all day, each with different speakers and no gap in between. The set-up has to be discreet so as not to disturb the audience, quick to adjust and reliable from the first talk to the last.

The solution

  • Multiple cameras to switch between the panel shot and a close-up of whoever is speaking.
  • Robotic cameras (PTZ) controlled from the gallery, with no operators among the audience.
  • Ronin on the move for lively shots of the audience and the stage.
  • Sound and lighting so every conversation looks and sounds right in the room and in the recording.
  • Live production control in the room itself, where what the audience sees is mixed.

The result

Ten editions in a row with the same client. A festival calling us back edition after edition is the best proof that the live show goes well.
